Is it safe to share your MT4/MT5 investor password?

AlgoTrade · 17 Oct 2026

MetaTrader accounts have two passwords. The master password can trade. The investor password is read-only. Here is what sharing the read-only one really means.

What the investor password is

Whoever has the investor password can log in and see the balance, open trades and history, but cannot open, close or change trades.

Can someone steal money with it?

Not directly: the investor password cannot trade or withdraw. Withdrawals happen in your broker’s client area, which uses a different login.

The real risks

  • Privacy: anyone with it sees your full account, every trade, at any time.
  • It spreads: once shared, you cannot control who else gets it until you change it.
  • Copying without you knowing: people can copy your trades from the read-only view.
  • Mix-ups: sending the master password by mistake instead of the investor one is the big danger.

Change the investor password from time to time, and every time you stop sharing it.

A way without any password

You can show your results without giving anyone a login. An EA runs in your own terminal and sends your trades and balance to a public page. Our free AT Reporter does this for MT4 and MT5: nothing is shared except the numbers you choose to make public, and you can stop at any time. Before you trust anyone else’s results, see How to check an EA track record.
